Maui Haleakala Daytime Bike Tour

$115.00 Online Special! Retail $125.00

The Maui Day Bike Tour is another of our popular rides and often sells out quickly due to high demand. If the Maui Sunrise Bike Tour is a little too early for you, this ride may be more your speed.

Guests will need to meet at our office/base-yard (located at 497 Baldwin Ave., Paia, HI) at 7:30a.m., where we will start them off with a beverage and light snack. Before the tour kicks off, guests will be fitted with a bicycle and helmet, as well as watch the Maui bike industry’s only safety video. The Haleakala Day bike tour begins at the 6,500 ft elevation of Haleakala where guides will provide guests with the history of the world’s largest dormant volcano, its geology, and the rare plants and animals that are native to the Hawaiian Islands and can only be found on the island of Maui. The Mountain Riders bike tour then proceeds with a bike right downhill, along the switchbacks through Haleakala Ranch, continuing with a driving tour through upcountry town of Kula, then a quick stop in the paniolo town of Makawao. To round out the tour guests will hop back on their bikes to coast through the sugar cane fields where our tour will conclude at the coastal town of Paia! Check-in is at 7:30 am sharp! Return to our base-yard will be around 12:00 – 12:30pm (times vary with season).

Special Notes: ***For passengers that may be joining their family members on the bike ride, but may not be interested in biking themselves, we offer an Upcountry Van tour in conjunction with the bike ride. How do I know if the Maui Haleakala Day Bike Tour is the right tour for me?

Are you into adventure? Are you into seeing some breathtaking views? Are you checking off your bucket list? Then this Maui bike tour could be the ride of your life.

This bike tour is for those serious about fun, adventure and memory-making. But, it is also for those who know how to handle their bike. The saying, you never forget how to ride a bike, does not apply here. You need to actively ride a bike and be competent in doing so. You also need to be comfortable riding alongside motor vehicle traffic while going downhill at 15-25 miles per hour at a 5-6% gradient.

Riders must meet all restrictions, including age, height, and weight, as well as be able to have strong control in their bike handling and riding skills.

Why are there so many restrictions? Is it a safe bike tour?

At Mountain Riders, we want to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone – and for years to come. We realize we have a long list of restrictions, but they are there for your own safety. Please make sure that you adhere to these restrictions so that everyone remains safe.

For any questions or concerns about safety or these restrictions, contact our office at 808 877-4944.

What should I bring with me?

Aside from extra layers of clothing, you may want to bring:

  • Mask
  • Sunglasses and/or prescription glasses
  • Sunscreen

You can bring a backpack with you that will be stored in the van. This will carry all the necessary items you may need and can easily store additional layers of clothing or any purchases you make along the way.

What is included in the daytime bike tour?

Aside from the fun experience and the views, there are a few things that are included in the bike tour. These include:

  • Volcano Chrome Cruiser bike with drum brakes to handle the downhill ride.
  • Bell helmet
  • Granola bars
  • Water

What should I wear on the daytime bike tour?

Because this isn’t a pre-dawn bike tour, the temperatures are a bit milder. Still,  you will want to make sure that you are dressed in layers just in case. That way, should you get too cold or too hot, you can add on or remove clothing accordingly.

Keep in mind that you will be traveling at high speeds and you will be in high elevations. That combination means things can get a bit chilly.

So, what clothing do we suggest?

  • Gloves
  • Windbreakers
  • Windproof pants

Sweatshirts, jackets, long sleeve t-shirts, leggings, jeans are all also great options.

Checking the weather before your tour will give you the best idea of how to dress. Again, having a backpack with you will allow you a space to conveniently store any extra clothing.
